College Representatives

Scheduling a visit

Given the important role of academics at Taft, students often have very little free time during the academic day. Consequently, the “typical” school day visit is not always one where admissions representatives will likely see many of our students. You will, however, be able to meet with one of our four full-time college counselors. Perhaps the best time to see the largest numbers of students during a visit to Taft is in April when we have our annual College Fair. Held in conjunction with many other similar college fairs in Connecticut at places like Choate, Hotchkiss, Pomfret and the Hartford Area Boarding Schools, our next fair will happen on Thursday, April 22, 2010. That said, we welcome your visit to Watertown whenever it is convenient for you.

Options for visiting Taft

1) During the lunch hours (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) when some students might be free.

2) After school at one of our “mini-fairs,” which will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October (with the exception of October 13). Held in our Choral Room, these meetings run from 2:20 to 3:05 p.m. and may provide a good way to connect with Taft students after classes and before their extracurricular activities begin.

3) In the early evening before study hours begin. These times are particularly effective for colleges and universities that typically receive many inquiries and applications from Taft students.

Finally, it is also our pleasure to offer space in our offices during the fall and winter for you to come to campus and interview our students. The best time for these interviews is in January, but some interviews in November work well for early action and early decision applicants. We'd be happy to host you and can also let you know how many students have your college on their lists.

Please e-mail Cheryl Gatling to schedule a visit with the above considerations in mind.

The college office is located in the main building. If you come in the main gate and turn right around the traffic circle, you will probably find a visitor parking space. In the event that none are available, please park across the street: proceeding left out the gate, turn right at the light, and again at your first right into the parking lot.)

On the main circle there are two doors. Use the one on the left, near the bust of Horace Taft. As you enter the building, take your first left down a short hall; the college office is at the end of that hallway.
