Biography:

Since 2006, Tom has been a member of the Taft community and has taught history. He currently serves as head of the history department. In addition, he leads the Taft Summer School, having served as director since 2011. Tom is a proud graduate of The Holderness School (Plymouth, NH). He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of New Hampshire, with a concentration in modern America. As an undergraduate student, he was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society; earned University Honors; and was elected to the History Undergraduate Committee.  During the 2001-02 school year, Tom received an M.A.T. degree with a concentration in European studies and worked as a paid intern at Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire—a member of Coalition of Essential Schools—where he taught freshman American studies and served as junior varsity baseball coach. Prior to Taft, Tom joined Kimball Union Academy, in New Hampshire, to continue his teaching career. For the next four years he taught modern world history, U.S. history, and advanced placement U.S. history; served as dormitory head and on a number of committees, including the honor board and student life, which created the Statement of Inclusion. At Taft, Tom has held various roles such Associate Dean of Students, dormitory head, and serves on various committees. He currently serves as the head coach of the varsity softball team. Over the years, Tom has helped coach football and ice hockey at Taft. Tom lives with his wife, Kristin, and two daughters, Julia and Sophie on campus.
