Biography:

Loueta received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Boston University and a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University. She began her teaching career at Taft in 1979. In 1982 Loueta moved to Monterey, California, where she chaired the visual arts department at Santa Catalina School for 14 years. Following that, she was art department chair at Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 2000, she returned to Taft. She teaches foundation courses in drawing and design, intermediate painting and drawing, advanced art, and AP Studio Art. Loueta holds the van Beuren Family Chair at Taft, and is the director of the Mark W. Potter Gallery. She believes that art is the most important area one can study. She wants everyone to fall so deeply in love with ideas that they study them in depth, in order that their hearts, mind, and spirit grow together. She teaches that if you are disciplined about pursuit of ideas that fascinate you, then you will make a happy life for the people around you. And she wants everyone to do the dishes now and then without their mother having to ask.
