Taft Beats Canterbury 66-12 Taft finished the first part of the season in fine form with a 66-12 victory over Canterbury. Every Taft wrestler in the Varsity lineup won their match, with the team ceding two forfeits at 113 and at 126. Jack Archie got the roll started with a pin in his first ever wrestling match. Drew Dye added a forfeit, before Taft ran off four first period pins by Frank Robertshaw, Alex Jones, John Parsons and Matt Schwartz. Gavin Pintro took a forfeit at 120, before we had the Match of the Day between Austin Omala and one of the Canterbury captains. It was 0-0 going into the third, after Austin rode his opponent for the whole second period. Austin pulled a reversal and earned the pin with 39 seconds left in the match. Eugene Acevedo added a forfeit and then Marcus Valenta and Kelvin Welbeck each bumped up a weight class to claim second period pins. At the JV level, Jack Bryant won his first ever match with a first period pin, and Gavin Pintro added a first period pin in his exhibition match.
