Loss 31-34
Taft Drops Hard Fought Battle To Loomis 31-34 Taft struggled to knock the rust off and establish match-level conditioning, as they fell to a sharper, fitter Loomis team. Taft knew going in, that this would be a tight competition, as the match-ups were going to be very tight. Taft started off well, with a pin by Kelvin Welbeck at 145. We then went on to drop four straight, including tough losses to very good wrestlers at 160 and 170. After John Parsons took a forfeit at 195, Alex Jones added a first period pin by bumping up to 220. Brendan Holleck joined the lineup and took a forfeit at 106. Gavin Pintro added a major decision at 120 and Austin Omala eked out a tight decision at 126. A lack of conditioning and struggles with technical execution meant that tight matches went Loomis’ way, and lopsided matches wound up as pins. In a close contest, that proved to be enough. The good news is that Loomis amply demonstrated what we will need to work on in the weeks ahead. At the JV level, John Parsons added a third period pin, the only victorious JV match of the four wrestled.
