Designed by the architectural firm of Jeeter & Cook in 1969, the library is a memorial to Hulbert Taft, Jr. '26. Almost 30 years later the building underwent major renovations and was annexed to the Ivy Kwok Wu Science and Mathematics Center. The renovation was designed by Graham Gund Architects, and the new Nancy and Ben Belcher Learning Center was dedicated in September 1997. The library houses more than 58,000 volumes and subscribes to a wide array of local, state, national and international newspapers in both paper and microform, as well as over 150 journals in hard copy, most of which are accessible in back issues by means of bound editions, microform, or in full-text on electronic databases to which the library subscribes. Those full-text databases provide access to articles in over 12,000 periodical titles.
