After graduating from Groton School, Carly began her undergraduate career at the University of Colorado at Boulder as an environmental, population, and organismic biology and anthropology double major. While at Colorado, she played ice hockey and rowed crew. She transferred to the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2006, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in zoology with a minor in botany, and competed on a NCAA championship sailing team.
While in college, Carly interned at Marine Biological Laboratories, Marine Research Center in Woods Hole, Massachusetts; snorkeled as an invasive-species border patrol surveyor for the University of Hawaii’s Botany Department; and worked as a student researcher for the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. After college, she began her teaching career at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, where she taught biology and environmental science. Although she will not have the same immediate, backyard access to four different ecosystems in Watertown that she had in Hawaii, Carly will teach science at Taft and live in Vogelstein with her husband, Jed, and daughter, Sadie.
