Linda B. Saarnijoki
B.A., Middlebury College; M.A., Columbia University
William E. Sullivan Chair
Year Appointed: 1976
Linda graduated from Middlebury College with a major in English and a minor in American Literature. She went on to earn a master’s degree in teaching from Teachers College at Columbia University.
Because Linda enjoyed summer camp counseling, playing team sports, and spending time with teenagers, she knew that a boarding school position was a natural fit. She joined the faculty of Taft in 1976.
Since then, in addition to teaching, Linda has taken on various administrative duties, including dean of faculty, class dean, director of the library and head of the English department. Her coaching duties included, among other roles, head of varsity field hockey and head of varsity volleyball and supervision of the outdoor program. After returning to full-time teaching for several years, Linda returned to administrative work as interim dean of faculty from 2013-15. She is now back primarily to teaching.
Linda’s husband is Assistant Headmaster Rusty Davis, and her daughter, Eliza, is a member of the Taft Class of 2012.
