Chris graduated cum laude from Taft in 1964, where he was editor-in-chief of The Papyrus and second in his class. He received a bachelor’s degree in English from Yale, and then worked in corporate public relations for Time Inc. before attending New York University, from which he received a master’s degree in English in 1971. He spent the next six years teaching English and coaching debate, soccer, and lacrosse at Greens Farms Academy.

From 1977 to 1980, Chris attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and served as a legal writing instructor to first-year students. He then served for three years as a law clerk to the Honorable Samuel J. Roberts, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. After practicing corporate law for a year with a Philadelphia firm, he taught appellate advocacy at Delaware Law School. Deciding that he preferred teaching at the secondary school level, he returned to the English classroom and taught for 14 years at Salisbury School, serving as debate coach, squash and tennis coach, and chair of the English Department. While at Salisbury, he also served for three years as president of the Debate Association of New England Independent Schools. After Salisbury, he taught for six years at Hopkins School, serving as department chair and debate coach. Chris came to Taft in 2007 as an English teacher and debate coach. He is delighted to be back at his alma mater.
