Loueta Chickadaunce received a B.F.A. from Boston University and an M.F.A. from Yale University. She began her teaching career at Taft 1979. She moved to Monterey, California, in 1982 to chair the Visual Arts Department at Santa Catalina School for 14 years. Following that, she was Art Department chair at Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In the fall of 2000, she returned to Taft. She teaches foundation courses in drawing and design, intermediate painting and drawing, advanced art, and Advanced Placement studio art. Ms. Chickadaunce holds the van Beuren Family Chair at Taft, and she is the director of the Mark W. Potter Gallery. Ms. Chic believes that art is the most important area you can study. She wants you to fall so deeply in love with ideas that you study them in depth, in order that your heart, mind and spirit grow together. She teaches that, if you are disciplined about pursuit of ideas that you fascinate you, you will make a happy life for the people around you. And she wants you to do the dishes now and then without your mother having to ask.
