During these years, he also earned a master of science in computer science, with a focus on educational technology, from Brown University. Also at Brown, he completed his training and became a nationally registered Emergency Medical Technician. During a sabbatical semester, he served as interim-director of Enterprise System at Hampton University. Charles also worked at the Exploration Summer Program, first, as a teacher, residential advisor, and program photographer, and, later, as a head of house, the assistant dean of students, and the associate program director. Beyond schools, he has worked as the crew chief of stagehands for the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals since 2001.
