After graduating first in his class from the Hotchkiss School in 1985, Colin majored in history at Brown University, where he also served as captain of the nationally ranked varsity sailing team. He also served as a flight instructor in several types of aircraft. A two-time Top Gun graduate, he spent his last years in the Navy as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor at the east coast FA-18 Weapons School in Jacksonville, FL.
