Marty grew up in Minnesota and recently graduated from Brown University, where he majored in History with a focus on modern North America. While at Brown, he was a peer academic advisor and volunteered as a reading and math tutor for 5th graders at a Providence elementary school. In the summer of 2013 he was a teaching intern at Choate Rosemary Hall, where he taught American Government and Politics in the JFK Institute of Government.  He was a member of the Brown University Varsity Crew Team for all of his four years at Brown, winning the 2012 Ivy League and Eastern Sprints Championship and placing second in the nation. He was elected captain of the crew team for the 2013-2014 school year and, along with his boat mates, represented Brown University at the Henley Royal Regatta in England in 2012 and 2014. Martin comes to Taft as the Carpenter Teaching Fellow and as a Penn Teaching Fellow in History. He lives on CPT 4 and coaches crew and basketball.
