Laura discovered a love of teaching while in graduate school at the University of Maryland, where she won two awards for her work as a teaching assistant. Because she met with more satisfaction in the classroom than in the lab, Laura chose to leave behind research to pursue a career in education. After a few years serving as an adjunct faculty member at several community and junior colleges, Laura arrived at Taft, where she now teaches life science courses and serves as co-director of the Global Leadership Institute.  In the summer, she and her husband, Dean of Academics Jeremy Clifford, administer a free four-week enrichment program for academically talented students from the Waterbury area. She and her husband live on campus with their children, Rob, Ellie and Matthew.
