Upon completion of the History Department curriculum, Taft graduates will:

  • Be curious about the world - knowing that history has determined how it has developed
  • Engage with a variety of sources, perspectives, and people - knowing that all matter in the quest for historical understanding
  • Read, understand, and critically interpret secondary and primary texts
  • Evaluate historical evidence [and technology] for authenticity and reliability
  • Analyze evidence to write clear and effective arguments
  • Value intellectual risk-taking and foster an environment where every voice is honored
