Ask any student or faculty member on campus what the school motto is, and virtually everyone will be able to recite it—in English or in Latin, or both.
We take seriously our school motto: "Non ut sibi ministretur sed ut ministret." And students at Taft quickly discover that it defines much of the fabric of the school community, whether through the Volunteer Program, Community Service Day, or one of the many clubs interested in global issues and service to others.
Founder Horace Taft wrote, "A great advantage of boarding school is that it gives opportunities for students to get out of themselves. They must work for others."
