Emma Bellet believes that Taft is a place to grow and thrive; a place where you will exceed even your own expectations.
I first visited Taft three years ago, when my brother came for a tour. Walking past the named bricks dedicated to the people who had attended Taft years before, it became more and more difficult for me not to imagine myself here, too. Every day I am incredibly grateful that my long ago dream has become my every day reality.
Taft encourages us to try new things, stretch ourselves, and explore new interests; to challenge ourselves on many levels. Coming in as a sophomore, I was anxious about whether I would be able to make new friends in a place where everyone already knew each other. But each day brought a new person into my life and with that, a new friend. I found my place in the heart of Taft and I became part of the school’s fabric. I look forward to each day and realize that I needn’t have worried. My friends here are the closest I have ever had.
I strongly believe that everyone at Taft aspires to make the community the best it can be. People are constantly pulling for your success, and in turn, you are always rooting for theirs. This culture of solidarity and support isn’t found in many places, and it is a big part of what makes Taft so special.
Our faculty instills a strong sense of independence and confidence in each of us. The bond between students and teachers may be uncommon in other places, but it is completely the norm at Taft. At this school, your dorm parents become your second parents, your friends become like siblings, and Taft becomes your home.
Taft encourages us to try new things, stretch ourselves, and explore new interests; to challenge ourselves on many levels. For the first time in my life, I am playing field hockey and ice hockey. These new sports gave me the chance to make friends with students that I would never have met otherwise, creating a stronger foundation for me at Taft. These team experiences gave me some of my best memories, helped me learn what new things I’m capable of, gave me confidence to be more competitive in my previous sports, and were really a lot of fun.
Taft is a wonderful place to grow and to thrive. Here, you can figure out who you are, what you are passionate about, and where you are headed. Everyone wants you to succeed, and at Taft you will surely exceed your own expectations.
