Coach Biography: Chris Torino

As Taft's varsity baseball head coach, Chris Torino brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience in baseball, soccer and basketball. Since joining the Taft Faculty in 2002, he served as the varsity baseball assistant coach for five years and head thirds basketball coach for four; and he has led the baseball program since 2007. As a player, Chris was a four-year member of the Amherst College baseball team as well as serving as captain his senior year. Chris began his coaching career as the baseball head coach for a Senior Babe Ruth team in his hometown of Merrimack, NH; and after graduation from Amherst in 1995, he joined the faculty at Gould Academy in Bethel, ME, where he served as baseball head coach, boys' varsity soccer assistant coach, JV boys' soccer head coach, JV basketball coach, and varsity boys' basketball assistant coach. After earning a master's in English, a cross-country move landed him at the Sage Hill School in Newport Beach, CA, where he assumed the role of baseball head coach and varsity soccer assistant coach. After two years in California, Chris made the move to Taft. Beyond Taft, he has worked a number of baseball clinics and showcases and as a counselor for baseball student-athletes in college process. Chris lives on campus with his wife Dena, two children, and their dog. He teaches English and is the dean of faculty.
