Coach Biography: Ginger O'Shea

Ginger O’Shea came to Taft School in 2001, having already taught and coached for 19 years in independent schools. . Ginger’s extensive experience coaching Volleyball has established Taft as one of the strongest volleyball programs in New England tallying a 418-132 record. O'Shea also eclipsed the 400 win mark in the 2010 season. Ginger began her teaching and coaching career at Boca Raton Academy in Florida, While at Boca Raton Academy she coached Volleyball Basketball and Softball. After 5 years in Florida, she moved to The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY where she continued to coach Volleyball, Basketball and Softball for the next 14 years. While at Masters, she guided the Volleyball team to 9 Fairchester League Championships and 10 Fairchester League Tournament Championships. She also tallied two New England Prep Small School Invitational Tournament Championships in 1997 and 1998 and was recognized in 2000 and 2004 in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”. In 2001 she made the move to Taft assuming the roles of Admissions Officer, Psychology teacher and Assistant Athletic Director. She currently coaches the Varsity Volleyball team and founded the Varsity Girls Golf Team. Her impact with the volleyball team was immediate and her squad earned a Founder’s League Runner-Up recognition in both ’01 and ’02 and were semi-finalists in the New England Championship Tournament. In ’03, ’04, and ‘05 the Volleyball Team won the Founder’s League Championship. The ’03 and ’04 teams finished 1st in the New England Prep School League. The ’03 and ’04 squads also earned a spot as a Finalist in the New England Tournament finishing second both times. Ginger holds a M.A. from Columbia University, B.S. from Florida Atlantic University, and A.S. from Endicott College. She is CAP Level II Volleyball Coach and is a Member of the NY State Coaches Association Century Club. She is a member of various athletic organizations such as the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the USGA, and the USA Triathalon Association. She coordinated the New England Prep School Volleyball Tournament for four years and is the Tournament Director for the Pippy O'Connor Independent School Girls' Golf Classic. Ginger enjoys raising money for various charities such as Diabetes, Leukemia, and Colon Cancer by actively competing in local road races, triathalons, and Bi-Athalons. One of her favorite personal athletic achievements was running the NYC Marathon in honor of an advisee who was battling cancer. Ginger plays in competitive golf tournaments. She lives on Campus with her husband Tim and two children, Mack and Rita-Catherine.
