Coach Biography: Rachael Ryan

Rachael Ryan enters her fourth year as Head Coach of the perennially successful field hockey team. In her first three years she has continued the programs success with a record of 39-8-3 In both 2003 and 2004 Rachael guided the field hockey team to back-to-back New England Semi-Final appearances and an appearance in the New England Finals in 2005. Rachael began her field hockey career at Kingwood-Oxford School in Connecticut in the seventh grade. After graduating from Kingswood she went on to play collegiate field hockey at Georgetown University. After graduating from Georgetown in 1992 , she briefly taught and coached at The Renbrook School in Connecticut. She then moved on to a successful coaching stint at Blair Academy in New Jersey from 1994  2000 where she served first as the assistant, and then head coach in 1995. As head coach at Blair, she guided the field hockey team to the state finals 3 times, capturing the State Championship in 1999. Rachael simultaneously carried on an identical playing and coaching career in Lacrosse with the exception that she served as Blair Academys head lacrosse coach from 1994-2000. Rachael and her husband joined Taft in the Fall of 2000 and worked her way into the role of head coach by first serving as assistant JV coach in 2000, taking 2001 off on maternity leave, returning as the JV Head Coach assistant in 2002, and then assuming the head coaching spot in 2003. Rachael and her husband, Greg Hawes, live on campus with their two children and two dogs. Rachael teaches in the history department.
