Coach Biography: Will Orben
Head Coach, Boys' Junior Varsity Tennis
Will Orben '92 serves as head coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team. With a 9-year record of 81-49-22, Taft soccer is an established competitor at the highest level in New England prep soccer. In 2003, his first season, the team reached the New England Tournament and Orben was honored as prep coach of the year in Connecticut. In 2011, the team lost in overtime in the New England semifinals and posted a 12-3-1 record. Will maintains strong relationships with current college coaches in the Patriot, NESCAC and Ivy Leagues. Will came to Taft first as a student in 1990 as an 11th grader. While at Taft as a student, Will had a distinguished athletic career and played on the varsity soccer, hockey and tennis teams and in his senior year won the Soccer and Hockey Awards.
Will attended Lehigh University, where he majored in civil engineering, and with the Lehigh Soccer Team, he was a two-year captain, Patriot League first-team selection and regional All-American. After graduating from Lehigh, Will played professional soccer in Hershey, PA, before moving to Denmark, where he played four seasons professionally for the FC Copenhagen, Viborg, Skjold, B93 and Olstykke clubs. His playing career brought him around the world traveling and playing against clubs in Holland, Sweden, South Africa and Norway.
Will has coached at camps and club teams throughout his career and continues to coach at the Lehigh, Wesleyan and Indiana University Summer Soccer Camps. He holds an Advanced National coaching diploma from the NSCAA and a USSF "A" coaching license. In the summers of 2004 and 2009, Will took his team to Denmark to play against youth clubs and to receive coaching his former professional coaches. Will, a native of southern Indiana, lives in Centennial Dormitory with his wife Andi, daughters Helene and Beatrice and son Reed. He teaches math and architecture and works in admissions.
