Coach Biography: Steve McCabe

Steve McCabe returns from sabbatical for his 30th season as a head coach of track and field at Taft. Growing up, Steve played football and ran track at Westborough High School in Massachusetts, and then received a BA from Bowdoin College, where he earned a total ten varsity letters while captaining the football team and competing in the throwing events for the track teams.

At Taft, Steve has also helped coach in the boys’ hockey program and served as a long-time coach in the football program. As the head coach of both the boys’ and girls’ varsity track teams at Taft since the spring of 1983, his teams have accumulated over 300 wins in interscholastic competition. Other honors recorded by his track teams include three Founders League team championships and numerous individual champions at both the league and New England levels.

Steve and his wife Susan are teachers in the Mathematics Department at Taft and live in a house near campus. Their three adult children, Kara, Katie and Michael are all graduates of Taft where, among other pursuits, they competed for the track teams.
