Middler Matt Schimenti won the individual championship at the Andover Invitational Golf Tournament at Newport Country Club on Saturday with an outstanding 1-over par 73. His round included 3 birdies and a number of scrambling pars, and he bested his nearest competitor by 6 strokes, which tells just how dominating Matt's performance was.

"Matt's play in these difficult conditions is one of the most outstanding individual performances by a Taft athlete in recent memory," said Coach Jack Kenerson '82, "and he should be congratulated."

Playing in true "British Open weather," the Boys' Varsity Golf team competed in winds that were blowing at 20+ miles per hours and gusting better than 30 miles per hour at times off the Atlantic Ocean, making playing conditions very difficult. The team finished second behind a strong Deerfield team with a total of 334 strokes.
