Iannone Runs to Jr. Olympics

Phenom Sara Iannone '13 Invited to National USATF Meet

12/2/2009

Sara Iannone '13 came to Taft this fall and has already made a huge impact on Taft's Girls' Cross Country team.  Consistently placing second among Taft runners, Iannone was a huge part of Taft's success the fall.  Her coach, Laura Monti, described the runner as "a real tough kid with a fantastic attitude."  Iannone finished every race this season, helping the team established themselves once again as a power in New England.  The team finished with an impressive 6-2 record.

Iannone did not stop running once the season was over.  On November 15th, a day after the New England meet, Iannone competed in a USA Track and Field (USATF) event with her running club based in Litchfield, CT.  Her 4K time of 17:29 merited an impressive 11th place finish and earned her an invitation to the Regional qualifier.  Held in Augusta, ME on November 22nd, the Region 1 meet hosted the best runners from the New England and New York City.  Iannone had yet another strong performance.  Running 4K in a time of 16:52 earned Sara a 31st place finish in Region 1.  This placing qualified her for the USATF National Junior Olympics in Reno, NV.

Iannone will compete in the USATF Junior Olympics on December, 12.
