Varsity Baseball vs Loomis Chaffee School

Score/Result: 2-11 L

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

Taft traveled to Loomis for their first face-off of the season. Taft appeared as if it would strike early in the top of the first when Rob Kiska '13 (Glen Gardner, NJ), Kyle Considine '13 (Canaan, CT), and Nick LaSpada all singled to load the bases, but Loomis turned a textbook 6-3 double-play to strand all three runners. Loomis stranded two of its own in the bottom of the first, but they scored five in the bottom of the second as a result of Taft's defensive meltdown. Taft responded with two of its own in the top of the third when LaSpada singled (3 for 3 on the day) to drive in Kiska (who'd singled) and Considine (who'd reached on an error). If Taft had been able to put up a zero in Loomis' next offensive half inning, the game might have played out differently, but Loomis, with two two-out walks and singles, earned back the five run lead, making it 7-2. Taft couldn't muster any offense for the rest of the day, and Loomis scored another four in the fifth on three hits, a walk, and a hit batsman. ~Taft did not bring its A-game to Winsor in this first of two versus the Pelicans this season, and the Rhinos will work hard to bounce back against Avon on Friday.
