Junior Varsity Baseball
vs Trinity-Pawling School
Score/Result: 2-1 W
Wednesday, April 24, 2013—
PAWLING, NY -
Doug Goldstone '15 was dealing on a wonderful, sunny afternoon and led Taft to a 2-1 win over Trinity-Pawling. Goldstone was dominant from the first pitch and retired the first 11 batters of the game. He only allowed 3 hits, 1 run and struck out 11 T-P hitters.
This may have been the fatest JV baseball game of all time (90 minutes in total). The game was tight throughout as the T-P pitcher was throwing strikes and their defense was making strong plays in the field. Taft batters only struck out one time and were making T-P work for their outs. The game was scoreless through 4 innings, with neither team advancing a runner past second base. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the leadoff batter for T-P worked a walked after being down 0-2 in the count. Later in the inning, Goldstone made a brilliant pick-off move, but the runner was surprisingly called safe. Instead of getting upset by the call, Goldstone buckled down and struck out the side. Talk about grit!
In the top of the 6th inning, Dave Sohn '13 came through with a clutch pinch-hit single. Two T-P errors and a Goldstone single resulted in a 2-0 Taft lead at the end of the inning. We were finally on the board. T-P scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 2-1, but Goldstone set down the side in order in the bottom of the 7th inning to preserve the win. Taft played strong team defense and grinded out this win. Great job all-around!
Next game is at home on Saturday against Avon @ 2:30 PM. See you there!
