KENT, CT -

On a very wet afternoon, the Rhinos traveled to Kent and won 13-0 behind a strong Doug Goldstone '15 pitching performance and two big innings by the Rhino bats. Taft hit the ball hard in the first inning but standed two on base. In the bottom of the first inning, Brian Tomasco '16 threw out a Kent player at second base to record his first 'caught stealing' on the season. The score was tied 0-0 at the end of one inning and the rain was beginning to threaten. Play was suspended in the top of the second inning with Taft leading 1-0 (Andrew Colangelo '15 scored), two outs and Ryan Parcells '16 at the plate with a 3-2 count. After a 20 minute delay, the teams retook the field and the Taft bats came alive. Parcells walked, Cashen Keeler '16 was hit by a pitch in the helmet (luckily he is okay and ready to play in the next game), Cam Carlson '16 hit an RBI single, Goldstone hit an RBI triple and Dan Sheehan '13 hit an RBI single. Taft lead 5-0 after the inning. Goldstone ended the second inning by striking out a Kent hitter with the bases loaded. This was a key play in the game and gave the Rhinos strong momentum. Taft scored 8 runs in the third inning punctuated by a bases clearing double by Brian Tomasco '16. The score remained 13-0 the rest of the way due to some very strong Taft defense. Coley Cannon '15 made a nice catch in centerfield, Jack Cannata '15 turned a 1-4-3 double play, and Colangelo made a diving stop at shortstop to end the game with the bases loaded. The game ended after five innings. Goldstone dealt with some tough weather, struck out five, only allowed 2 hits and left seven runners stranded in key situations. Good overall team win and Taft runs its record to 6-5 on the season.
