The Taft Boys JV Basketball won their opener against Canterbury 47-25 on Saturday in New Milford. Taft pulled ahead mid-way through the first half and led 22-14 at the half. The Big Red kept a comfortable lead throughout the second half.

 

Doug Goldstone led all scorers with 15 points – he also added 8 rebounds. Justin Lebek came in off the bench to add 9 points and 7 rebounds, Cameron Carlson had 6 points and 2 boards, and Richard Gilland had 4 points along with 5 rebounds. Hunter Frantz had 4 steals and took a charge along with 4 points.

 

“It was a good effort for our first game,” said coach John Piacenza, “We still have lots of work to do, but we have a good foundation to build upon.”

 

Taft hosts Choate on Wednesday at 2:30.
