Boys' Junior Varsity Basketball
vs Avon Old Farms School
Score/Result: 38-45 L
Wednesday, February 20, 2013—
Freshman Cameron Carlson led Taft with 13 points, including 11 in the second half, in a losing effort against Avon Old Farms on Wednesday in Watertown. Avon won the game 45-38 and Taft is now 9-7 on the season. Richard Gilland added 8 points and 8 rebounds for Taft, and Justin Lebek also had 8 rebounds.
Avon took an early, commanding lead in the game and went into the break ahead 28-13. Taft slowly chipped away at the lead in the second half, though, as they played with much more focus and intensity. The Big Red even got to within 3 points with about 5 minutes left in the game, but Avon hit a few unlikely shots to extend the lead at key points down the stretch.
“A very frustrating game,” is all that coach Piacenza could say after the game. “We played much more like competitors in the second half,” added coach Whitley, “If we could only have done that in the first half too.”
Taft’s final game is on Saturday at 2:30 at home versus Westminster.
