This was a bit of an unusual game. KO was quite fast and aggressive and in fact ended up with a green and a yellow card. We were frustrated, but we continued to work hard. We scored very early, less than two minutes into the game. When Caroline Queally took a straight shot that ended in the far corner. The game remained scoreless until midway through the second half. In the second half, KO had a couple of chances including a breakaway. Coco Tautkus came out of nowhere and made a perfect tackle just at the attacker was about to take a direct shot on Karina Wohlheiter. Even though it wasn’t technically a defensive save, it was pretty close.
There were a lot of big hits in this game where the ball literally travelled 75 yards up and down the field. Unfortunately Rachael ran into a KO stick and was tripped up and twisted her ankle and had to come out of the game. However, that only served to energize the team and we picked up our level of play and totally dominated the second half. We had a total of 13 corners and we felt confident we could turn one into a scoring opportunity. We did when Caroline dodged their fly and took a perfect hit into the backboard. The KO keeper was strong and big and hard to beat, but we were glad to get goal number two.
The best part of this game was when Issy Tabah went into make a tackle and there was an awkward collision and she ended up on the turf right in front of our bench. She popped right back up, put on her goggles and gave us a flashy smile with two thumbs up so we knew she was OK. She hopped up and got right back into the play. It was priceless.
The big day is next! We are off to Lakeville on Saturday to take on the Bearcats! Let’s go Big Red!!
