Junior Varsity Football
vs Choate Rosemary Hall
Score/Result: 14-8 W
Monday, October 01, 2012—
The JVFB Rhinos grabbed the lead and hung on for dear life over a determined group of Choate Wild Boars. Taft jumped out to a 14-0 first half advantage on touchdown passes from Hunter Frantz to Justin Lebek and Nadir Pearson. John Jones added a two point conversion. Two turnovers in the red zone prevented Taft from jumping out to an even larger lead. Choate came back in the second half and ran the ball successfully, scoring once and keeping the ball out of the Taft offense's hands. Choate was on the doorstep, threatening to tie the game when a determined defense held on and kept them out of the end zone, finally regaining the ball on downs after a Frantz knockdown of a pass heading to an open receiver in the end zone. The iron men on the offensive line: Fernando Fernandez, John Gribbin, Richard Gilland, Stephen Mesh, and RJ Susi blocked effectively throughout the game. Zach Ambrosino and Sean Sullivan played solid two-way football throughout, with Sullivan blocking a punt that was recovered by Sam Sweet, playing his first game at linebacker. Liam Nelson chipped in with a terrific interception to foil another Choate offensive drive. Zach Cyrus, Toni Liu, Juan Lones, Josh Lopez, and Ryan White made contributions to the victory in their first football game.
