Saturday, April 27, 2013
The Taft Girls golf team surpassed the 100 win mark with three terrific victories this weekend. This is quite an accomplishment since the program received "Varsity" status just six years ago! To date their impressive record stands at 103-7-3.
Taft 4.5-.5 vs Loomis
Taft 4-1 vs Ethel Walker School
Taft 3-2 vs Convent of the Sacred Heart
The low medalist was Jackie Eleey who had her personal best scoring round shooting 1 under-- par 36. Jackie was on fire! She had four birdies on almost all of the odd numbered holes #1, #3,# 7, #9 . She hit 8 greens in regulation and was relaxed and confident which allowed her natural tempo to shine. Legare Augenstein won all three of her individual matches and shot a 41. Legare also birdied the 1st and 3rd holes. On the third, her approach shot hit the pin and just missed going into the cup. It was very exciting to watch it roll closer and closer to the hole. A group of coaches and parents witnessed her shot and were very impresses with her tremendous accuracy. Pen Naviroj also had a person best round--posting a 39! It was her first time breaking 40 and we will celebrate it soon ( it was my mother's 84th birthday, so I had to leave after the match). Pen has been working hard on her putting stroke and keeping her head "quiet" while controlling her stroke. Pen listened to Legare's helpful advice to "trust" her putting stroke! Alice Kim won two of her three matches. In her match against CSH, after getting her match to "all square" after 8 holes, she approached the 9th hole. Unfortunately, Alice's tee shot went off to the left and found a bunker. Her opponent was able to get up and down and Alice went 1 down for the match. Nevertheless, Alice started off strong with a fine birdie on the 1st hole. Morgan Manz played well and bombed her drives well over 250 yards it was fun to hear the other coaches commenting on her length off the tee. Although Morgan was disappointment with her performance, she played against tough opponents, and she battled hard. She shot one of her most consistent scores to date. Nicole Lu played in an exhibition match and she almost chipped in on the last hole. She was 2 up after the end of her match.
This Wednesday we travel to Hotchkiss.
