Taft Girls Golf won its first double header of the season today by defeating Convent of the Sacred Heart from Greenwich, CT and Rye Country Day from Rye, NY at Watertown Golf Club.   The day started off with a bang when our new team hats arrived just before the match.  We received so many compliments on our team uniforms that the opposing coaches took pictures of our team to show their Athletic Directors!

Our golf was as good as our looks!  Playing #1 Jackie Eleey shot a 37 (par for the course).  She hit 6 fairways, 7 greens, and had only 17 putts.  Her two birdies in a row on the 3rd and 4th holes came from sinking two 20 foot putts!  She won both her matches 5 & 4.

Legare Augenstein had a great par on the 9th hole a 149 yard par 3.  She two putted from 30 feet to close her matches 5 & 3 and 2 up. Legare was happy with her fairway woods especially after she killed her 3 wood on the 384 yard par 4 7th hole.

Pen Naviroj was victorious with two 4 & 3 matches.  Pen birdie the 8th hole.  She hit 4 fairways and had two great "up and downs" on the 1st and 4th holes to save par.  At the end of the match, Pen said, "I'm happy'!  Moreover, she learned the importance of trusting her putting stroke.

Alice Kim started in her first varsity match as a freshman and although she admitted to being a bit nervous, she played well.  She split her fairways and made a terrific putt on the 4th hole--a 6 footer that broke right to left.  Alice learned a valuable lesson and the importance of staying focused on the process and not to worry about the outcome.

Morgan Manz also played in her first varsity match and won both of the challenges going 2 up on each of her opponents. Her par 3 on the 9th hole was a highlight and this success is making her want to go to college to play golf instead of basketball!  Morgan was proud of her bunker shots and of the fact that she didn't even lose a ball.

Nicole Lu played in a 6 hole exhibition match.  After the 4th hole Nicole was one up, but since the rest of the team was still out on the course, we encouraged her to play two more holes.  She halved the 5th hole and then lost the 6th hole.

It was a great day for Taft Girls Golf!  Next match is Saturday at Williston North Hampton 3:30.
