Girls' Junior Varsity Lacrosse
vs Greenwich Academy
Score/Result: 17-9 L
Wednesday, May 01, 2013—
The Taft JV Lax team had the wonderful opportunity to play at home on the turf field on Wednesday in a great battle against Greenwich Academy. Right off the first draw, Taft made the statement that they were ready to fight for the Win. Taft moved down the field and put the first point on the board in a decisive attacking rush. For the first five minutes of the game, the score went back and forth, with Taft and Greenwich each going up at times. On the other end of the field, Megan Stone had a particularly strong game. Megan remained disciplined in her man-to-man defense and slowed down Greenwich attack throughout the game. Brooke Majewski, Sophia Dawn, Jane Andresen, and Maggie Lineberger also played strong conservative team defense, maintaining a resilient front at the 8-meter. Taft defense remained controlled and deliberate in exercising slides and double teams throughout the game.
At the halftime, Greenwich was up 9 to 7 in what would clearly continue to be a close battle in the second half as well. Despite some great draw wins by Paige Whittemore and good hustle after ground balls by individuals like Elle Carroll and Adeline Ewing, Taft started to lose some of their steam. With injuries limiting substitutions and a fast paced transition game, Greenwich managed some more offensive opportunities, resulting in goals and a tilt in their direction. The game finished with a score of 17-9 in Greenwich Academy’s favor. Taft goals were scored by Amelia Bermingham (2), Lexi Long (1), Paige Whittemore (3), and Elle Carroll (3). Despite the loss, the Taft team demonstrated their strengths, particularly in the first half, and showed that they were strong contenders. Taft team defense played strong and conservatively, the midfield utilized doubles and got after groundballs, and the attack remained poised and patient in their work to get points on the board. Following a strong performance in this game, Taft is read to take on Kent next Wednesday upon returning from long weekend.
