JV Slalom 1/25/2013
Five brave Taft racers took on the entire Brigham Ski League on Friday, January 25th. Despite being few in numbers, these five were very impressive in the field of 46 racers. Leading the charge for Taft was freshman Kim Amelsberg ’16. Although Kim was notified at almost the very last minute that she would be running in the race, she handled the course very well on both runs to earn 3rd place overall. Kim’s performance was very a positive sign for the team as the team looks for a female racer to score close behind Sarah Reilly and Karlea Peterson at New England’s. Very close behind Kim was first year racer Ezra Levy ’15 at 5th place (the Berkshire racer who finished in 4th place was only 0.01 seconds ahead of Ezra!). Ezra’s improvement in both slalom and GS in the last three weeks has been extraordinary, and the team looks forward to see him hold his own in future varsity races. Carey Cannata ’16 then took 30th place. Carey was still a little unsure about slalom skis, so he ran a conservative race in order to finish with two clean runs. Following Carey was Natasha Cheung ‘16 and Lexi Walker ’16. After being thrown into their first slalom races, Natasha and Lexi newly gained experience showed as they finished both of their runs, and skied faster than some kids along the way. Natasha received 36th place, and Lexi got 40th place. The team hopes that its next race will be in the near future.
