Boys' Thirds Soccer
vs Kent School
Score/Result: 8-1 W
Saturday, October 26, 2013
On lovely October Saturday afternoon, our boys faced a determine Kent side on Taft's Parents' Day. Today, the shots went in as Taft prevailed 8-1. Ege Ercan began the scoring for Taft in the second minute off a corner kick that rattled around the mixer before Ege put it past the Kent keeper. Ege was involved in the next goal, as well, as he crossed a lovely ball to Kevin Molder for a one-touch finish that tallied Taft's second goal in the fifteenth minute. Ege scored his second goal of the match a mere two minutes later as Jack Healey put a lovely ball forward the Ege put into the net neatly. Other folks were itching to get involved and Josh Molder crossed a ball to Courtland Boyle that CB put in with a tidy side volley in the eighteenth minute. Kelvin Xu then tucked in a strong shot to the near-post corner off a pass from Evan Lehner. Kelvin then assisted a teammate by passing the ball to Leon Vortmeyer who then re-directed the ball to Garrett Guiney for Taft's sixth and last goal of the first half.
Both teams come out determined in the second half with Taft again scoring first and for the first time on a headball off a corner as Kevin Molder delivered a lovely ball to Courtland Boyle who earned a $10 Jig gift certificate with a strong header. Kent then scored their lone goal on a breakaway in the 67th minute before Leon scored a goal off assists from Kelvin and Christian Gonzalez. Overall, this was a strong match for our boys who shot the ball very effectively and often today. We have been practicing pulling the trigger in practice all week. None of the shots that you don't take ever go in is the lesson to be learned from today so SHOOTA! Our next match is this Wednesday at Choate against an always-good team from Wallingford. See you there!
