Boys' Thirds Soccer vs Loomis Chaffee School

Score/Result: 3-0 W

Saturday, November 03, 2012

Our lads made their last road trip of the season yesterday and earned a good three-nil win over a young, small but skillful and determined Loomis side.  Both teams did their best to possess the ball on a cold, windy day on the banks of the CT River.  Bohan Gao had the best chance early for Taft but his strong strike from the right side hit the underside of the cross-bar then the goal line then out.  Tough luck, Bohan!  Fortunately Bohan's substitute Josh Molder tallied Taft's first goal of the day by putting in a rebound in the 39th minute, just before the half whistle sounded!

Taft came out with strength in the second half by possessing the ball with short passes and quick diagonal runs.  This paid off with a goal as Griffin Connor and Reid Shafran hooked up with a quick one-two that sent Reid in and he pushed a low ball by the Loomis goal keeper.  Taft finished the scoring in the 110th minute as the garbage-man, James Matons, put in a deflection off the Loomis keeper.  James has scored more of these goals than any other player on our team.  It is a real skill to score in this manner.

The match ended with Taft up three-nil and with both sides satisfied with the effort as Loomis put up a very valient effort straight through to the end of the match.  The play of the day for me was a tackle that Johnny Morgart put on the talented Loomis forward early in the second half that might have cost the young chap from Windsor a filling!  It was that stiff but completely fairly delivered.  Well done, Johnny!

Our next match is this Wednesday against the lads from T-P.  Only two matches left and we hope to see you at both of them.  Cheers!
