Boys' Thirds Soccer
vs Berkshire School
Score/Result: 2-1 L
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
The Taft Boys Thirds soccer team traveled to beautiful Berkshire Massachusetts to play the lads in green. Both teams were very energetic from the beginning with a few good chances but nothing that definitely should have found the net until about mid-way through the first half when Kelvin Xu biked in a corner from Josh Molder. It was a really extraordinary goal that Kelvin should be very proud of accomplishing. Unfortunately, Berkshire came right back and scored an equalizer soon after with their over-the-top jail break type of offense. Everything was sent forward with two or three boys in green running on with the hopes of gaining a breakaway. There were two referees on the pitch today, both of whom were very capable of calling offsides which occured repeatedly. The first half then ended one-one.
Our boys took it to Berkshire in the early second half but could not put one past the Berkshire keeper. Then a B forward again got behind our back line (who played well, by the by) in a rush at Taft keeper Luke Willson. Center back Phil Holt came in hard from the left side and slightly from the back and booted the ball to the corner flag and then collided with the B forward. The referee then awarded Berkshire a PK that Luke did his best to save but could not despite getting a hand on the ball. Our lads redoubled their efforts but could not quite put in the tying goal. The final whistle blew and Taft got on the bus disappointed in the result but not in our effort. Our next match is this Saturday at Taft against Kent on Parents Day. We hope to see quite a few of your there!
