Boys' Thirds Soccer vs Berkshire School

Score/Result: 4-0 W

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

The Taft Boys Thirds soccer team played an always tough Berkshire team last Wednesday afternoon 24Oct12 and our lads did not disappoint their supporters on this day.  Taft scored off the opening kick-off, which is very rare in soccer, as Kelvin Xu notched a goal in the first minute of the match.  Then, James Matons scored in the fifth minute to put Taft ahead two nil.  Berkshire then stiffened their resolve and did not allow any further goals for the rest of the half.

Both teams came out with good energy in the second half as Berkshire brought 31 players to Taft and those  lads fresh off the bench were anxious to show their mettle against our boys in red.  However, the defense of Goldstone, Cooper, Johnston and Carlson backed by goalkeepers Paton and Tomasco did not allow a goal all day.  Taft then tallied a third goal as Doug Goldstone assisted his roommate Alex de Liagre for his first goal of the year.  Josh Molder then finished the Taft scoring in the 76th minute with a pretty shot from just outside of the 18 yard box.  This was a good match for both teams but Taft got the better of the play on this day.  Our next match is this Saturday at Kent as most of Taft's athletics team travel to northwest CT for Kent Day.  See you there!
