Boys' Thirds Soccer
vs Choate Rosemary Hall
Score/Result: 2-1 W
Wednesday, October 30, 2013
This past Wednesday the Taft Boys Thirds soccer team traveled to Wallingford to face an always stout Choate side and fortunately came away with a two-one win. Amazingly, Choate scored a mere 40 seconds into the match as defensive confusion and indifference lead to Choate's best player possessing the ball twenty two yards out and then zipping a lovely shot upper-90 that Taft 'keeper Will Meeker had no chance to save. Choate kept up the pressure but Taft soon got our wits about us and earned a few good chances that went for naught until Phil Holt passed a lovely ball forward to James "Back-heel" Lee that James crossed to Ege Ercan for a very nice header goal. The first half ended knotted one-one.
Both teams came out with good energy in the second half, earning good chances that were stopped by both keepers. Luke Willson was especially strong for our side as Choate consistently played the long ball forward and chase that a 'keeper must thwart by coming off his line to gather or clear. Finally, our boys created the winning goal by gaining a corner kick that Kevin Molder sent into the mixer where Taft goalscorer extraordinaire Noah Baird swept into the Choate goal. Choate redoubled their efforts to earn the equalizer but really never came close to the tying goal. Our lads let out a good cheer at the final whistle proud of a good effort that earned our team a win. Mike Molder had a fine game in the center-back position for Taft. Next match is our final home match v. Loomis this Saturday. See you there!
