Boys' Thirds Soccer
vs Hotchkiss School
Score/Result: 1-1 T
Saturday, November 09, 2013
The Taft Boys Thirds soccer team traveled to beautiful Lakeville this past Saturday to play our last match as a team against a tough Hotchkiss side that we had played to a one-one draw earlier this season. Both teams played hard for the entire first half but neither team could put one past the keeper as Luke Willson played tough in the goal and Phil Holt saved one off the goal line for the Rhinos. Fortunately, the referee understood the offsides rule very well as the lads in blue were in that position at least a dozen times during this match. The first half ended nil-nil.
Both teams really went at it for the entire second half with Taft finally getting one past the 'Kiss keeper as Courtland Boyle slotted a corner kick from Jack Healey low and far to put Taft up one-nil in about the twentieth minute. Both teams then had a few more good chances to no avail and I believed that the one goal was going to hold up as I predicted at half time. Unfortunately, Hotchkiss were awarded a direct free kick from directly in front of the Taft goal about twenty yards out in the last minute. The Bearcats forward did not waste this opportunity and tied the game at one. A brief kick-off and three whistles ended the game at one-one to the disappointment of our lads in white.
I would like to thank our parents for really putting together a fine spread of food for the lads to enjoy after the match. Well done! Also, I would like to thank my players for sticking it out with me for two months this fall. I know that I am not the easiest person to co-exist with and I really, really care about the sport of soccer and want to observe this sport played well and intensely. The boys really rose to this challenge and improved while playing with diligence and respect for the game. I look forward to witnessing their advancement in the Taft soccer program. Thanks again to all involved! Cheers, JL
