Boys' Fourths Soccer vs Trinity-Pawling School

Score/Result: 3-0 W

Saturday, October 20, 2012

The Quad Squad was back in action on Saturday in their first home game of the season. Parents' Weekend served up a beautiful day weather wise, and the Rhinos took on a Trinity Pawling team who were looking to avenge a 8-0 defeat earlier in the season. It was clear that the T-P team was much improved and the Taft team would have to play their best soccer to get the win.

The first half was tight throughout. While the Rhinos dominated posession, the T-P defense held strong and the goalie made a multitude of great saves. Courtland Boyle hit the post in the middle of the half, and that is the closet the Rhinos would get to scoring. The half ended deadlocked at 0-0. The boys came out even more determined in the second half and pushed the tempo. The T-P squad had a few chances early in the half, but goalie Will Meeker stood his ground in goal. With about 20 minutes left to play in the game, Tom MacMulllen scored on a beautiful goal from the left side of the 18-yard box. With very little angle Tommy roofed the shot in the upper right corner of the goal. It was as pretty a goal any soccer fan will see. What seemed like less then a minute later we scored our second goal to go up 2-0. Evan Lehner took a pass from Andrew Conlangelo on the right side and deposited the ball in the upper left corner of the goal. It was a beatifully struck ball from Lehner and mirrored MacMullen's goal. MacMullen finished off the scoring with his second goal of the day assisted by James Lee and Phil Holt. The Quad Squad played it most complete game of the season and stayed undefeated with a 3-0 win over a tough T-P team. The team played 50-50 ball agressively, supported each other and displayed an unselfish style of play.

It was easy to tell that there was high energy on this day. The Quad Squad wants to extend a big thank you to all the parents and fans. The "Hard Hat" award goes to Garrett Guiney, who has been a big part of our team all season. Garrett plays with tenacity and on this day, unfortunately he was lost for the season. He always goes hard towards every loose ball, and today he collided with a player twice his size. While he won the team a free kick, he injured his collarbone. The Quad Squad wishes him a speedy recovery and welcomes him as anothet coach on the sideline!

Our next game is Wednesday, October 24th @ 4 PM on the JV Girl's Soccer Field. See you then!
