Girls' Varsity Soccer
vs NMH School
Score/Result: 2-2 T
Wednesday, October 24, 2012—
Taft traveled to Northfield Mount Herman on October 24th to take on the Hoggers. In a competitive match-up the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Taft came out energized and made productive use of the width of the field. However an early mistake allowed NMH to capitalize and Taft went down 0-1 in the fourth minute of the game. The goal did not cause the Rhinos to panic. The girls focused on smart possession and they scored the equalizer just 1 minute later. The play began with a pass from defender Lizzi Pelletier ’13 who found the feet of Teresa Mugica ’13. Mugica carried the ball up the sideline successfully challenging a one vs. one opportunity. She passed to striker Shelby Meckstroth ’13 who was checking towards Mugica right neat the 18-yard box. Meckstroth received and turned and hit a shot that sailed over the goalie’s head and landed in the back of the net just under the crossbar. Taft was fortunate to climb out of the hole dug in the 4th minute, but still had work to do. Meckstroth would score again 20 minutes later to give Taft the lead. The opportunity came from a corner kick taken by Taylor Rado ’14. She hit a low driven ball into the penalty area and Meckstroth found the back of the net for a one-touch finish. He game entered halftime with the Rhinos leading 2-1.
Although Taft held the lead for majority of the second half, a late goal from NHM sent the game in a tie. Taft was disappointed to let the win slip away. They must now prepare for their next match at Kent on October 27, 2012 at 3:00 PM.
