Girls' Varsity Soccer
vs Ethel Walker School
Score/Result: 7-0 W
Saturday, November 02, 2013
The Girls' Varsity Soccer team hosted Ethel Walker and were looking to extend their recent good form. They would not disappoint and were able to establish an early lead. Four minutes into the game Taft had scored back-to-back goals thirty seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish. It was not just that Taft would find the net 7 times on the day that was impressive, but the squad's commitment to team soccer, unselfish play, and ball possession led there to be no doubt that Taft was in form.
Peyton Swift '15 netted her first hat-trick of the year with three superb strikes. Swift received many balls from striker partner and co-captain Taylor Rado '14. Rado had three assists on the day and added a goal of her own. Co-captain Rachel Muskin '14 played another solid game at center mid and added a goal of her own. Adding to the Big Red scoring sheet for the first time was senior Sam Lamy '14. Lamy has been so close on other occasions this year but she made no mistake with her opportunity and slid a powerful lefty shot across the net. Also scoring her first goal of the year was Riley Bragg '17 rounded out Taft's scoring. The goal hopes to be the first of many for Bragg over the course of her career. Every senior member of the Big Red attack scored a goal. The seniors on the defensive end turned in another solid unscored-upon performance. It is worth noting that Katherine Roznik '14, Taft's center back, left the pitch for the first time all season in the second half. While not on the scoresheet in most games, Roznik's value to Taft's back line cannot be overstated.
On a day that Taft welcomed back their All-Time Leading Scorer, Taft fittingly had a strong offensive performance. The Big Red looks to continue its good play on Wednesday when they host Kingswood Oxford at 2:30. It will be our last home game of the 2013 campaign.
