Junior Varsity Softball vs Westminster School

Score/Result: 12-16 L

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Taft lost a disappointing game against Westminster 12-16.  The Rhinos began the game well and held a lead until the very last inning.  To begin the game, Taft earned the maximum of 5 runs in the first and second inning.  Westminster’s talent was evident and they scored a total of 6 runs in the first two innings.  Lily Tyson was the starting pitcher and Cassie Willson relieved her after 4 innings.  Taft’s decisions when hitting was not as stellar as it was at Rumsey, but the girls remained aggressive for the whole game.  Alexa Colangelo went 2 for 2 at bat.  Hitting contributions came from Willson, Liana Hickey, and Rung Panasawatwong.  Despite fewer hits, Taft’s defense had showed significant improvement since their first game just 4 days earlier.  Caroline Blatz caught 10 putouts as the first base[wo]man! She was as consistent as ever and kept the infield composed.  Willson proved to be an asset making plays and being involved in frequent infield decisions.  Colangelo, getting more comfortable with second base, made 4 putouts. Srinidhi Bharadwaj made a quick recovery after dropping a third strike and made a great throw to Blatz at first for the out. Taft’s infield saw a fair amount of hits during the game and held Westminster to just 1 run in the third, fourth, and fifth inning.  The sixth inning began Taft in the lead 11-7.  Westminster would capitalize on several errors and great hitting to have them score 9 runs in the last 2 innings, and Taft fell short 12-16.  This game was a great learning experience, and Taft’s vibrant squad looks forward to their next game.

JV Softball will face Westover School on Wednesday, April 24 on Taft’s campus at 2:30PM.
