The score of today's match does not reflect the positive energy coming from Taft's strong-willed thirds team. The day's one win came from James Lee ('16) and Garrett Guiney ('16), who used the alleys to their advantage and strategically placd the ball at their opponents' feet. Doubles team Robert Fitzgerald ('14) and Alex de Liagre ('15) looked like they were having more fun in the sun than anything else, despite the loss it cost them versus their all-girl Rumsey opponents.
Singles players Justin Kwon ('15), Garrett, James and Robert faced well-practiced opponents -- but what does not kill us makes us grow stronger. The games were tighter for Joseph Shin ('16) and Intro player David Gagas ('15) who held onto glimpses of small victories and leads within the sets they played. This experience for the boys prepared them for the season ahead and will surely lead to smarter, more competitive matches in the future.
Thank you do David Gagas and Alex de Liagre for stepping up from Intro tennis this afternoon. Let's look forward to a good home match against Chaote this Saturday. We'll be putting our theory to the test: a granola bar and gatorade between doubles and singles may mean the difference between success and defeat.
