Hollywood Comes to WatertownMay 2008
Producer Ed Saxon spoke with interested students on Tuesday while filming on campus for his upcoming movie, Farlanders. Saxon also produced Fast Food Nation, Adaptation, Philadelphia and Silence of the Lambs, among many other films. Farlanders is a comedy directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty) and stars John Krasinski (The Office). Written by Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius), the story is about a couple who are expecting their first child and travel around the U.S. in order to find the perfect place to start their family. Several students got a taste of the industry, getting the chance to apprentice for the day. And, as with the Disney film College Road Trip, which was filmed in part on campus last August, a few students participated as extras. Income generated from both films using the school as a location will go toward renovations of the Woodward Black Box Theater. For more information on Farlanders and its release date (sometime in 2009), visit IMDB.
Celebrity spotting was a popular activity as students and faculty returned from long weekend to find filming in full swing. Here, faculty members Shannon Lenz, Jordie Richards and Rob Madden met up with The Office star John Krasinski (second from left).
