Daily Post/Michael Kolster

Photographer Michael Kolster

Photographer Michael Kolster spent a day at Taft, working with Nick Riggie's photography classes and talking about his work at Morning Meeting. He is an assistant professor in the Visual Arts Department at Bowdoin College.

He says his work is inspired in part by Heraclitus's observation that one "cannot step twice into the same stream."

He has been working on a series of photographs from New Orleans, taken over the course of several post-Katrina visits. Many of these images are presented in triptychs of the same location at three different times.

Kolster also hosts The Daily Post, a web-based collection of photographs that grows by one entry each day, as its name suggests. The project began on March 27, 2002, and has no scheduled end date. With few exceptions each photograph is posted on the day it is made.

His visit to Taft was sponsored by the Rockwell Visiting Artist Series. His work on these pages is from The Daily Post.
