Storyteller Jay O'Callahan

Listen to his Morning Meeting performance, (mp3 format, 36MB)

When Jay was 14, he started telling stories to his little brother and sister at the parties to keep them occupied. It felt so natural, it never occurred to him that it could become a way of life.

Master storyteller Jay O'Callahan can take a bare stage and single-handedly transforms it into a dynamic and sensitive world filled with compelling characters.

O'Callahan performed at Morning Meeting on January 25, and worked with "Experiments in Writing" students and other classes during his two-day residency.

One of the most renowned storytellers in the country, O'Callahan has performed at Lincoln Center, Boston Symphony Orchestra, London's National Theatre Complex, and on National Public Radio. Fellow storyteller Odds Bodkin, who has performed at Taft many times, calls O'Callahan the "grand daddy" of storytellers and the man who inspired him.
