TITANIC sets sail
Fall Musical in Bingham Auditorium
What audiences witness on stage really happened; this is the true story of the Titanic--the largest moving object in the world at the time. All the characters in this musical adaptation of the story are actual passengers.
On its maiden voyage, the Titanic was said to be "almost unsinkable." When most luxury liners took six days to cross the Atlantic, The owner pressed to cross it in only five in order to garner headlines, and wealthy passengers.
Two factors were not in their favor, however. The year with the largest number of recorded icebergs in the 20th Century is 1912, the year the Titanic sank. Tragically, engineers, in hindsight, discovered that had the ship hit the iceberg head-on, only the bow would have been damaged, and the ship could have remained afloat. The ship also carried the requisite number of lifeboats, which at the time was determined by the tonnage of the ship and not by the number of passengers.
It is at once a story of remarkable pride, arrogrance and greed, as well as a story of hope, courage and unimaginable horror," explains director Rick Doyle. "The play is a tribute to the dreams of those passengers who lost their lives, and an epitaph to those who pretend to be gods."
The musical was presented in Bingham Auditorium over the fall parents weekend in October.
