Vestiges of this room’s past life as the school library are everywhere, from the intricate shelving to the sliding ladders in the balcony. Once the Hulbert Taft, Jr. Library was constructed in the 1960s, the Woolworth Faculty Room became a quiet and comfortable setting where faculty members can work or relax between classes, host guest speakers in an intimate setting, meet with staff, peers, and students, or welcome parents and alumni for special events.
Through the generosity of Maurice ’51 and Marc ’79 Pinto, Taft’s language lab underwent a full renovation in 2011. The Pinto Family Language Lab consists of two adjoining spaces, with a total of 32 workstations and the functional capacity for group and individual listening and recording. The larger space has a central Harkness-style table a computer-driven Smartboard. The individual workstations are equipped with internet access and computers that run Digital Language Learning Lab (DiLL), an advanced audio network technology tool that converts a traditional lab into virtual space.
